Another fix for the new iMac keyboards

Sure, you could take the easy route and simply install that software update to get the function keys on your newfangled aluminum keyboard to work, but that would be too easy.

For reasons unbeknownst to anyone, MacFixIt is reporting that apparently a system reinstall will also achieve the same result. Why you would want to do that when there’s already a far simpler way, we have no idea, but hey, if you’re feeling in the mood, why not?

Update: Ok guys, a mea culpa. I didn’t realize that that previous software fix didn’t actually fix those function keys. So apparently this OS reinstall takes care of that problem. My bad.

Ahem . . . From the MacFixit piece you quote from: "One additional benefit, my brand new aluminum keyboard which was exhibiting the non-functioning dashboard and exposé keys (F4, F3) even after the apple keyboard update, now works!"

As many people using the new Mac keyboard can attest to (including the MacFixit fellow who says very clearly "EVEN AFTER THE APPLE KEYBOARD UPDATE"), the new Mac keyboard's F4 and F4 keys do not work, even -- often -- after the update.

All you have to do is just a bit of research on Apple's forums to learn that this is the case (dozens of posts on this).

It seems that before poking thinly veiled fun at a competitor, you may want to get your facts right.

I'm disappointed with the MacUser "journalism" standard. This particularly caught my attention as I have this keyboard and it DOES NOT WORK AFTER THE KEYBOARD UPDATE. However, I do not plan to do a complete system restore just to fix a few F-keys.
