I’ve been enjoying my big storage drive, the WD7500AAKS, a 750 GB hard drive. Having that much space to play with is liberating. I no longer worry about filling up my hard drive. We have 1 TB drives at the top end already, but with most Macs featuring the possibility of only a single internal hard drive, achieving greater capacity in a single mechanism furthers the platform.
Hitachi has promised to deliver 4 TB drives in 2009. Naturally, these are the desktop sized drives. An even more important part of Apple’s strategy are laptops. Most consumers opt for these portable computers. Well, in the same year, we can be looking for 1 TB drives. Not too shabby (by today’s standards at least).
I fully expect their competition to keep up. That brings up a question I always have on my mind (for some unexplainable reason). What drive manufacturer do you prefer? Apple pre-installed isn’t an option.
These hdd companies need to focus on flash! Flash flash flash! Stop with the mechanical spinning already. So old news. Where is my 1TB flash drive? They need to be working day and night to get the price down. I mean, $600 for a 32G drive? Yikes! With the rise and popularity of flash, they should be practically giving it away. Unless the planet is suddenly running out of silicone.
