That’s no moon…it’s an ASCII representation of one

Your father's lightsaber.Slow Friday? That’s why they call it good. Over at the Mac OS X Hints blog, Rob “Too Much Time on His Hands” Griffiths shows off a couple of ways to kill, er, pass this lazy Friday afternoon.

Along time ago (1997) in a galaxy far, far away (the Netherlands), Simon “Way Too Much Time on His Hands” Jansen began painstakingly recreating the original Star Wars entirely in ASCII text (picture at right). While on the downside, it may only be ASCII text, on the upside, it suffers from none of George Lucas’s incessant tinkering. The movie’s not done yet (after almost ten years), so if you’re waiting on Empire and Jedi, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath.

To check it out, pop open Terminal, type telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl, and grab some popcorn. All you need now is a way to watch it via Front Row.

Update: Cyrus points out that we’ve mentioned this before. Together, we will rule the blog as father and…right. Right. Sorry.
