Stupid Dock tricks

Posted by Derik DeLong | Monday, September 11, 2006 5:37 AM PT

Dock Command-Tab has by far one of the coolest Mac OS X tricks I’ve seen in a long time. The instructions are succinct, so I’ll copy them verbatim.

  1. Set your Dock’s minimize effect to “Genie” (or the hidden “Suck” choice, using TinkerTool).
  2. Open Applications → Utilities → Terminal.
  3. Type killall Dock but don’t hit Return just yet.
  4. Open Safari and load a decent sized website, like Digg.
  5. Switch back to the Terminal, keeping the Safari window in view.
  6. Shift-click the yellow minimize button of the Safari window, and hit Return to execute the command while the window is busy morphing.

Boom, that window stops moving mid-animation. Here’s the fun part: it still responds perfectly normally, save the window being all distorted. Amaze your friends.

You can just shift-click, and the minimize animation will slow, really slow. And then you can have all the time you like to hit enter!

That's classic. I wish I worked in a Mac environment so I could annoy my workmates with that.
