Scale your GUI

iTunes Scaled Among the many, many predictions for WWDC and Leopard is resolution independence. Basically, you can change the size of interface elements regardless of monitor resolution. The best example of why it’ll be cool that I can think of is people like my father. He likes interface elements to be much larger than I do. He’ll be able to use an LCD monitor at native resolution without interface elements being small.

Another bonus is that I could fit more onto my Powerbook 12” with its meager 1024 by 768 resolution. The seeds for this ability are already in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Rob Griffiths has taken some screenshots and even made a little movie to prove that it works. It’s not perfect yet (unsurprising because it’s not officially supported).

I would be surprised to hear more about this on Monday (a part of Leopard).
