A creative cat by the name of Joshua figured out that by applying toothpaste (specifically, Arm & Hammer Dental Care Advance Cleaning) to the surface of a MacBook, that it can somehow scrub away all that palm-induced grime and nasty particles that accumulate over time.

I find that a Mr. Clean magic eraser works wonders.

Wow, that is really neat!
I gotta try that.

Why is it when someone cleans or buffs something (ring/ipod/CD) with toothpaste they make it out like they split an atom. Tooth paste is slighlty abrasive and acts as a cheap "soft scrub" alternative and can clean just about anything. This has been know and common practice for about 50 years now.

Wet Wipes (For use on babies) works very very well

Toothpaste is an old trick for miniature train collectors. It is a light abrasive. When the engine transmission cogs are new and tight, you put toothpaste on them to lightly wear them out and let the transmission run easier.

Funny thing is I was looking at my laptop and thinking it needed some cleaning.

Great post!

This solution may very well work, but it's easy to see that the before and after photos were exposed, or processed, differently to enhance the affect - not exactly kosher. Check the relative brightness of the keys in the two images. Presumably only the surface below the keys was cleaned, not the keys themselves.

Anyone have a solution to clean the MB power cord?

@ wesg

Try using Clorox wipes or any wipes.. Colorox ones are really good, I use them to clean my cords.. but of course unplug the power cord first.

Lighter fluid and a paper towel, believe it or not.

iKlear works great for almost any surface, including displays. Don't spray directly on the surface though. Use the included cloth. It's always done a great job for me.
