Own your router’s UPnP settings

Port Map Normally, I turn off UPnP on my router. It gives programs the ability to open ports without my consent. However, in order for Back to My Mac to work correctly, it needs to be on with some routers, so as of late, it’s been on. Being an automated method to change port forwarding, it would be nice if one could use it to view and change those settings without visiting obtuse configuration web pages.

Port Map, from the fine guys at Coding Monkeys, allows you to do just that. Feel like adding an incoming port? Click the plus button and you’re presented with options for local and public port, whether it’s UDP/TCP/both, and some description text. You can even see the mappings made by other software.

Better yet, it’s free. Even better than that, the driving code is open source and available for developer use.
