MacBrainiac Challenge: the take home edition

Posted by Dan Moren | Monday, January 15, 2007 8:32 AM PT

Chris BreenThink you know a little something about the Mac? Let me tell you: you don’t know nothing, son. Of course, the English major in me requires that I point out that that’s a double negative, so technically you do know something.

Anyway, if you’re looking to test your knowledge of all things Macintosh, look no further than the MacBrainiac Challenge. If you missed last week’s event at expo, don’t sweat it: Macworld editor (and MacBrainiac Challenge quizmaster) Chris Breen has posted the entire quiz for your enjoyment. Here’s a sample:

Q. Three days after his 43rd birthday, Steve Jobs celebrated by doing what?

A. Discontinued the Newton/eMate line
B. Forced Gil Amelio and Ellen Hancock to resign
C. Launched Apple’s “Stores Within Stores” in all 149 CompUSA locations
D. Announced 150,000 pre-orders for the first iMac

Remember, using the Internet is reference materials are strictly forbidden. You’re only cheating yourself. The answers haven’t posted yet, but Chris promises they’ll be up this week. Trebek’s got nothin’ on you, Breen. Nothing!

Update: As Monsieur Frakes elucidates, it’s not just the Internet, but any resource besides your own head that is off-limits.

The answer is A. Mactracker helped with finding the discontinue date and using world book (not online mind you, just software) to find steve's birthday. Also watching some old keynotes that I recently downloaded so I followed all the rules.

Sorry, Mark. Dan forgot to mention that not only can you not use the Internet, it's completely "closed book" -- the answers have to come directly from your noggin ;-)

Might be nice to post the direct link to the quiz, since it took me longer than it should have to find it: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/expo/2007/01/macbrainiac/index.php
