Anthony over at 123macmini has put together a gorgeous Intel Mac mini/G4 cube hack inspired by the black MacBook and Apple stores. Starting with a G4 cube, the guts of a new Intel Mac mini were hacked to fit inside the case, along with a whopping 500 GB SATA hard drive and separate power supply. The hack also required some custom electronics work to make the cube’s touch-sensitive power switch turn on the Mac mini.
To show off the new machine, the internal housing of the cube was painted matte black, and slid inside the clear, shiny acrylic enclosure of the case, making for a uniquely Apple look. The glossy black face and white illuminated Apple logo really make this project shine. The transplant is a masterfully executed hack with several pages of photos worth checking out.
The two things I will forever miss, unless Apple treats me are the Cube and BeOS.
OK, I am showing my age...
