There’s something satisfying about a product premiering on the Mac platform before making its way to Windows. Add in two parts geek factor, and you’ve got an announcement I just eat up. I haven’t read or heard too much about Google’s App Engine, but that’s mostly because web only technology just doesn’t seem that compelling. It’s basically a way to develop web apps on Google’s fancy schmancy infrastructure.
As a service for developers, there’s plenty of testing, monitoring, and fixing that needs to be done. The new (Mac exclusive) Google App Engine Launcher manages your list of applications, allowing one to run, browse, deploy, and view logs for their applications. Very nifty. It will no doubt reduce overhead for users of the service and hopefully also translate into a better user experience for those that end up at the receiving end of the end products.
For now, Windows and Linux users can simply goggle and be jealous.
