How To: Read and Write to NTFS drives in OS X

macfuse_20070616.jpgHave you ever been in a situation where your buddy brings over his external hard drive because he wants to pass along his lifetime photo collection, and your trusty Firewire connection (or heck, eSATA) is the best way to do it?

Ah, but then you discover that your buddy isn’t an enlightened Mac user, and that it’s a pain to read or write to his NTFS drive.

Turns out, there is a way around this conundrum — it involves several trips into the command line. But if you’re still interested, read on.

Update: As Derik pointed out, Mac OS X “natively read NTFS disks in OS X. The only problem is writing.”
