There are times when I love Google so much that I want to marry it and raise a bunch of tiny Googles with it (my parents would be so proud). GMail may stumble sometimes but Google Calendar? Hurrah!
And now Google’s gone and added a way for Google to suggest search queries as you type them. Yeah, so they’re not the first search-engine to do this but so what? Sometimes being second (or third) is more fun, in my opinion. Because I said so, that’s why.
So, Google Suggest. According to Google Product Manager Jennifer Liu on the Official Google Blog (yes, that is its name), Google Suggest has left the confines of Google Labs for a much larger world (namely, the default option on google.com’s homepage). Originally begun in 2004, Google Suggest has already been implemented in several projects, such as the Google Toolbar, Firefox search box, a little device known as the iPhone, and YouTube’s search fields (that’s why it seemed so familiar!)
If seeing Google offer up “fountain pens uk,” “fountain pens parker,” or “fountain pens for sale” as soon as you start typing “fountain pens,” is a bit too much, the original Google search option is still available. Google Suggest requires JavaScript and cookies to be enabled and is supported by the following browsers (or their later versions): Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 7.1, Mozilla 1.4, Firefox 0.8, Opera 7.54, Safari 1.2.2.
