Whether it’s the Eric Schmidt connection or not, Google is really warming up to the Mac. I never though I’d see Google Desktop for Mac, but they have released it and continued to update and improve it despite an initially cold reception. Safari is quickly being added to the list of supported browsers for most of their web based products.
Few people may be aware of this, but Google employees are allowed to use up to 20% of their time to work on pet projects, whether they directly contribute to Google’s bottom line or not (I would note that AdSense was one such product). Among these many projects are Mac related applications and tools. Google has collected them up into the Google Mac Developer Playground. The highest profile example is MacFUSE, which allows one to use various services and data sources in the Finder as if they were native filesystems.
Anyway, it’s a great little resource to browse and download stuff from. Also, they have the best slide ever. It’s a big blue plastic one that wraps around a pole. It produces awesome static electricity that you can zap people with. Good times.
