As I type this post, it feels as though the bones in my fingers are fossilizing. It’s a painful sensation that I can’t help but think is setting in a bit prematurely. Of course I’m not actually fossilizing. That’d just be silly. What I’m suffering from is a rather common case of repetitive stress/strain injury (RSI).
Of course I’ve read all of the documentation regarding safe computing habits. I’ve read so much material about ergonomics, my brain is convinced that it’s not even a word anymore. It sounds more like an eighties cover band at this point. The trouble is, I’m a short guy with a penchant for slacking, both figuratively and literally. I don’t fit in chairs, at least in any configuration that is offered by either the chair or my body.
So you might think it’s hopeless. I’m doomed to be petrified by age 25. That’s where technology swoops in to save me. AntiRSI, an app I’ve been using for almost a month now, tells me when I need to take a break. A small notification appears on my screen with a countdown telling me when I can work again. If I move my mouse or press a key, the countdown resets. This ensures the quality of my breaks.
So fix your body, one break at a time.
Thank you so much, I'm also another RSI sufferer and the only time it leaves me alone is on my iBook surprisingly, but this will make sure I keep on top of taking breaks.
I prefer Dejal's Time Out. It's free, so if you want to check it out: http://www.dejal.com/timeout/
Ya... I'm getting this wierd, sore feeling in my right wrist all the time. (and I'm only 23). Fortunately, I just took the "opportunity" to buy a Bluetooth Wacom tablet to hopefully stop the problem.
best,
Joel
I switched the mouse over to the left hand. That has helped.
But what really shifted the pain was Cranial Sacral Therapy. This therapy helps resolve the eneretic and tissue congestion in the joints and muscles of the arm. (Or any other part of the body)
