Quake in your boots and on your Mac

Quake Wars: Enemy TerritoryTwo major announcements about forthcoming Mac games in just a few days? I feel like I’m stranded on some sort of bizarre mystical island. On Saturday we brought you news that StarCraft II would ship simultaneously for PC and Mac; today brings news from Aspyr that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is coming to the Mac.

The team-based first person shooter is based on the Doom 3/Quake IV engine, and is a successor to Splash Damage’s Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, a free open source conversion of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Confused yet? Great. No specific date has been given for the PC or Mac versions, though both are due later this year. Likewise, system requirements for the game have yet to be released.

While two major announcements does not a viable gaming platform make, I am pleased to see so much attention being given to the Mac. If only Apple would turn their beneficent Sauron-like eye onto gaming, perhaps we could really make some progress here.
