Do you miss the Cold War? That halcyon age when fears of missiles raining out of the sky was just another day ending in ‘y’? Well, turn your eyes to the skies, folks, because next weekend you’ll have a chance to relive all the glory at no extra charge.
Coinciding with this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (which I’ll be attending), software houses Ambrosia and Introversion are offering a weekend-long freeplay of their Cold War strategy game DEFCON. Anybody familiar with the early 1980s classic War Games will immediately recognize DEFCON as the spiritual successor to that fine film. You can play against the computer or compete online with other would-be superpowers on either Mac or Windows.
Usually DEFCON will cost you $25, but between 18:00GMT August 24th and 06:00GMT August 26th, you’ll be able to blow up the rest of the world for free. So head over to Ambrosia’s site and grab the free trial.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Of course, anyone familiar with that classic film would know that the game is unwinnable. Sounds like loads of fun to me.
