Frack yeah. I know there’s more than one fan of Battlestar Galactica (or B*G, to those in the know) on the MacUser team, so I think I can pretty confidently assume that at least some of our readers enjoy a bit of hot Viper-on-Raider action.
For you, a special treat: Beyond the Red Line, an open source total conversion of space sim Freespace 2 into the Galatica universe. Take on the role of a rookie Viper pilot, fly dogfights against Cylon Raiders, and generally pretend you’re Apollo or Starbuck (except, in my case, clearly prettier).
The quality on this project is, quite frankly, amazing. It features in-game music, including pieces by composers from the actual show, original characters and voice acting, and online multiplayer. The demo’s available now for Windows, Linux, and Mac. I fired it up on my MacBook, and it played fine (okay, it crashed once, but I’ll give it a try again later). For those who were fans of LucasArts’s old X-Wing and TIE Fighter series, I heartily suggest you strap yourself in for a hell of a ride.

Freespace and Freespace 2 were awesome.
oooooh sweet.
Though I don't know if this will tide me over until 2008 or just make me go crazy with battlestar lust!
