Though it’s been a while since I’ve read Sam Brown’s Exploding Dog regularly, I’ve still got a soft spot for the stick figure comic. I even snuck in an oblique reference to it in one of my posts yesterday (this comic).
A friend of mine pointed me towards a post written by Sam earlier this summer, where he lamented the death of his original Titanium PowerBook G4. The G4 had been through a lot, and had even been pronounced dead by Apple Geniuses several times, though it continued to work. By the end, not only did it have a crucial strap of tape around it, but it would often take an hour to start up, and shut down randomly.
But the PowerBook has finally given up the ghost and Sam penned a heartfelt eulogy:
i have probably owned ten or more computers in my life and none of them were that special. they would just come and go. i never made a web page for those computers. i could probably list a hundred reasons why my powerbook was so cool. and i know i sound like an idiot. but it was a cool computer.I feel much the same way about the PowerBook G3 I have stashed in a closet at my parents’ house; I can’t quite bear to part with it, despite the fact that it doesn’t turn on anymore. I can’t quite explain why, other than the fact that it was my first laptop, and as such, will always have a special place in my heart.
[Thanks, Jason T.]

The Titanium was a horribly built computer. God knows how Apple avoided a class action suit for the shoddy design which meant that I and thousands of other people had to have the hinges, which warped the screen and cracked the metal around it, replaced, at a cost of $300 plus.
On the other hand the Aluminum is a work of art, beautifully built and designed.

Yep, I feel the same way about my Commodore Amiga that's sitting in my parents attic. If only I could get something to replace my broken 1084s...

Mac hardware graveyard
Ok idea time again.
Would it be possible to setup a page on this site or another site where people could post tributes and pictures of their dead, old and much loved Mac hardware?????????????
Could even to a mock death certificate for them in the form of facts about wehn and how they stopped working and how old they were etc
