Sorry, European Apple fans: according to a report by French site MacGeneration (en français), Apple has pulled out of this fall’s Apple Expo in Paris, to be held from September 17-20th. Previously one of the largest Apple gatherings in the world, Apple Expo has lost some of Apple’s attention in the last few years: while Steve Jobs appeared briefly to talk about the iPod nano in 2005, Apple did not give a keynote in 2006 or 2007.
And now it seems they’ve decided to vacate the premises altogether. MacGeneration says that recent floor plans of the expo hall showed that the space allocated to Apple had been replaced with labels reading “Reserved.” While event organizer Reed Expositions did not immediately comment, there is word that an official statement will come later this week.
This is not the first trade show that Apple has missed this year: they also declined to attend NAB and photography show PMA. In recent years, Apple’s relied much more heavily on scheduling their own special events to make product announcements, rather than remaining bound to external shows. I like to think it’s to save the environment (less traveling!), but maybe it’s just because they loathe leaving Cupertino.
In other French news, those bummed by Apple’s absence from the Expo can take some solace in the fact that it appears the company is planning to soon start construction on their first Apple Store in the country, which is supposedly set to open at the Carrousel du Louvre shopping center adjacent to the Louvre itself. No news on when the store will open, but we hope it doesn’t detract too much from the museum.

Detract? Au contraire! The Pei pyramid will be complemented quite nicely by another of Steve's cubes.

Given the presence of Starbucks there, I don’t think that’s a real danger.
