European Apple fans will have to do without a dose of Stevie J. at the Apple Expo in Paris next month. The company has announced that there will be no keynote at the upcoming conference.
Representing the show organisers, Reed Expositions France, Apple Expo Communications contact, Clémentine Tisserand, confirmed the lack of keynote to Macworld UK.This will be the third year running that Jobs hasn’t given a speech; in 2004, he was recovering from his cancer surgery, and last year Phil Schiller took the stage instead, though Jobs did appear to talk about the recently debuted nano. She said, simply: “There will be no keynote at this year’s show.” Tisserand added that the decision not to offer a keynote was not taken by the company she represents.
Rumors are afloat that the reason Jobs will not visit Paris is France’s recently passed anti-DRM legislation. Harsh words have certainly been exchanged between the two parties (state-sponsored piracy, anyone?), and Steve is known for his capriciousness.
Then again, if Apple really wants to stick it to them, they’ll announce a big product the same week and throw a raging party in Cupertino.
