October 14th MacBook event is a go

Posted by Dan Moren | Thursday, October 09, 2008 9:22 AM PT

spotlight.jpgSha-zam. All those rumors about October 14th? Confirmed. This morning, Apple sent out an invitation to the press about a special event next Tuesday. We’re not sure exactly what it’s about with Apple’s puzzling title of “The spotlight turns to notebooks” but we’re going to go out on a limb and say notebooks. The event, which is invitation-only, takes place at Apple’s Town Hall on the 14th, starting at 10AM Pacific with registration beginning at a prompt 9:30 Pacific.

But what about notebooks? The image shows a spotlight shining on an aluminum-clad MacBook (Pro?), which suggests that rumors about a makeover for the MacBook are true. No doubt you’ve also been following the whispers of the mysterious “Brick”—is it a production process? A new accessory? An industrial-strength cleaning solvent? A brick? We’ll know in just a few days.

Meanwhile, let us know what you think is coming in the comments below.

Greeeeat! Been expecting this event. I've had my trustworthy 'ol Macbook for 2 years now. it's time for a new one. I only hope for more powerhorse and a [better] Nvidia chip for video. That's all I ask for. Even though some multi-touch would, of course, not hurt anyone. :)

Phew! I had a hell of a day yesterday deciding whether to just give up waiting and head to the Apple Store. My PowerBook's hard disk died pretty spectacularly a few days ago, on top of all the other issues it has.

I'm sure I woulda been happy with a new MacBook but it would drive me crazy to have the last of a line.

Can I just pre-order one now?

Notebooks? I'm sick and tired reading about Apple's notebooks and iMacs!!!

I've had it up to my gills with Apple and their computers!!!

When can we get the focus back onto the iPods and their Apple TV's?!

You guys have it all wrong. Apple is moving away from computers and electronics over the next two years and will be the leading supplier of glass and aluminum bricks. They will be building all future Apple stores with their own bricks.

Well, the rumor sites especially AppleInsider has been extremely accurate. A lot of things touted include, new design, although that Apple notebook in the invitation doesn't feature wide screen. But I am placing my bet on consumer notebooks coming with 2 GBs of RAM standard while pro laptops will feature 4GBs of RAM and the likely possibility of a notebook from Apple that can support up to 8 GBs of RAM (17 inch and high end 15 inch). Discrete graphics is a likely across the MacBook line since there has been some intense speculation especially that one about nVidia showing off new MacBooks with discrete graphics.
