Today’s keynote allowed us a glimpse of what Apple’s been up to for the past couple years: fulfilling every rumor ever made about them in the past 3 years in just one device. Widescreen iPod? Bam! Mobile device that runs OS X? Pow! iPhone? Look ma! No hands!
Usually my browser’s refresh button gets a hearty workout during these events but this time, I spent half my time picking my jaw off the floor (repeatedly), and the other half of my time talking to fellow Mac users, having the same conversation with 10 different people. “Oh my God! Can you believe it?” “No, of course I can’t!” It seemed quite possible that this device is the figurative “all that and a bag of chips.”
Forgetting for now the degree to which Apple has made a monkey of me, and setting aside my feelings about the fact that the Macworld keynote this had very little to do with Macs, I must say that I’m incredibly intrigued with this little guy. And my birthday’s in June… And my phone is getting old…

The phone looks great, but 8GB max? I would be willing to pay $600 for 20GB, not 8!! More movies, more music, more pics...Where is just the video iPod? I don't want to sign-up or switch to Cingular, errr, AT&T!
Does anyone remember the rumor about three different iPod models or something? I hope they come out with an iPod model with the same functionality and interface as that of the iPhone's but only without the phone because I would be satisfied with the iPod all in itself. Does anyone agree?
MK,
How much would you pay for the phone sans iPod functionality? Yes, $599 is steep but for most people I know with BlackBerry's and Moto Q's already spend half that on a cellular phone. I think the price is right.
My phone is old, I've been hanging back not replacing it (or getting a red nano for that matter) waiting for this... now I have to wait even longer. It's as bad as Harry Potter, just hope that's out soon so that by the time I emerge, the wait for iPhone in Europe will be nearly over.
P.s. Price: steep, storage: small, extras wanted: a red version with 10% going to AIDS charity. Plus, does it have an alarm function? My phone has been my alarm for years, it is my killer app #2!
Dextor, I would certainly pay for a large-capacity widescreen iPod without the phone and "PDA" type functionality. That would be amazing to watch movies and videos on a 3.5" screen using touch controls.
