As a first time attendant at Macworld, one of my must see events was the MacBrainiac Challenge. The idea is simple, pit two teams of Mac experts against one another in a trivia challenge to the death. That was the description given to me. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you’re one of those good guys), this year there were no fatalities.
This years teams consisted of Rich Siegel, Paul Kafasis, Scott Knaster, and Brent Simmons on the Brute Camp team (software developers) and Adam Engst, Dan Frakes, Ted Landau, and Andy Ihnatko on the Justice League (writers). Brute Camp really showed up Justice League by showing in very stylish bowling uniforms. Chris Breen (whose birthday it is today, Happy Birthday!) hosted the event.
I’ll admit I was wrong with many of my own personal answers were wrong, but the teams struggled as well. The challenges were finding the price for a Cyberman helmet, adding certain languages to your preferred list (including Klingon, which really is there), configuring a Mac to have a white background and widgets on the desktop, and finally, send a message to Chris Breen using SMS in iChat.
It’s a little trite, but it was just a really good time. And for those interested, Brute Camp won.
