When you think about it, the WWDC keynote has a lot in common with church. Both are home to quiet, reverent speeches from congregation speakers; the crowds that gather are large and passionate; and, well, prayer certainly has its place at either, whether it’s forgiveness you seek…or a new Mac Pro with 32 processors. Really, the only difference is you have even less chance of speaking to Steve Jobs than you do of talking to god.
To that list, add the playing of bingo. It might be every Wednesday at your local church, but at WWDC it’s one shot per year. Ars Technica’s John Siracusa has published the latest iteration of his annual keynote bingo card, centered primarily around the three themes we’ve been hearing whispered for the past few weeks: a .Mac overhaul, the 3G iPhone, and Mac OS X 10.6 Sabretooth Tiger or whatever. Just for good measure, we’ve got a handful of old favorites like “boom,” “One more thing…,” and Scott Forstall (oh, Scott Forstall—what a handsome devil you are!).
I was pretty sure I heard someone yell “bingo” at the Macworld keynote in January, but my sources tell me that person was quietly Tasered, removed from the premises, and thrown into Steve Jobs’s iDungeon (coming soon!).
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
If .Mac is rebranded to Mobile Me, it will likely be overhauled. That's three square, 2 in the same row. Maybe someone will shout bingo!
"oh, Scott Forstall—what a handsome devil you are!"
I'm hoping the wheel out Bertrand "The Comedy Frenchman" Serlet. Frankly, Scott is starting to get on my tits a bit. And don't get me started on Phil...
Maybe Bertrand can do some mime this year.
I wouldn't be surprised if, someday, Jobs prepared a "Bingo" slide to keep control of the timing of audience reactions.
I love Siracusa's bingo.
I'm already preparing for the keynote with food and beer. It's better than watching the game. Yey!
@pdkoenig, that would be hilarious.
