The chimera that is American Idol’s unholy tryst with Apple continues. As if it being able to listen to tracks from the “talent” show wasn’t enough, now you too can become part of the action. Apple and American Idol are now teaming up to invite you to the Idol on iTunes Songwriter Workshop, a free program being offered at Apple Stores around the country.
The one-hour workshop will take you through the basics of creating a song with Garage Band, hopefully grounding you enough to let you submit a song to American Idol’s Songwriting Contest. If you’ve ever thought to yourself that you were a mere one hour’s instruction away from being the next big songwriter, then this is your chance. Perhaps your only chance.
It all goes down this Saturday, March 22nd at 2PM, and the following Monday, March 24th, at 6PM (in whichever time zone you happen to find yourself); you can sign up at the link above, as well as find more information. If you happen to write a song that makes it on to American Idol, please let us know. Because, honestly, we’re unlikely to find out any other way. Like, say, watching. As it turns out, we are both too cool for school and for American Idol. I know: it was a surprise to us, too.

"You're kinda bitchy, dawg."
I don't know if I got that quote right, my familiarity with American Idle is limited to whatever Letterman and Shaffer talk about.
