The National Association of Broadcasters convention (or NAB) may not have the same cachet as Macworld, but in the past few years, it’s been the place for Apple to roll out new additions or revisions of its professional level video products, like last year’s announcement of Final Cut Studio 2. Which is why it’s somewhat surprising to find that Apple has opted not to exhibit at this year’s event.
“Apple is participating in fewer trade shows this year,” said Anuj Nayar, senior manager of PR at Apple. “Often there are better ways to reach our customers. The increasing popularity of our retail stores and Apple.com Web site allows us to directly reach more than 100 million customers around the world in innovative new ways.”Apple’s not the only major company to forego a trip to Las Vegas—video production giant Avid, Apple’s main rival in the market, has declined to exhibit as well.
Well, huh. Perhaps Apple’s not planning a major update to Final Cut Studio this year? Or maybe—and this is far more likely—Apple and Avid hooked up last year at NAB, and they’re not terribly eager to run into each other. Awkward. Just remember: what happens in Vegas…

Was really hoping Apple might use NAB to announce they'll be shipping Blu-Ray Macs.
Anyone know when this might happen?
To Sean: They must re-announce Final Cut Server first.
