Porn industry also siding with Blu-ray; death of HD DVD all but confirmed

Format warsHere comes what might be the final nail in HD DVD’s coffin. The porn industry - which hadn’t chosen any sides till now, waiting for the format wars to end - is also thinking of adopting Blu-ray as the de facto standard for their high definition needs. There is little doubt that Warner Brothers’ decision to release their movies exclusively on Blu-ray played a major role in this turn of events.

Speaking at the opening of the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo 2008 — an entire yearly Expo dedicated to, we assume, pornography — several industry executives spoke in favor of Blu-ray and said that they were mulling over the idea of going exclusively with Blu-ray. Apparently, it “sounds sexier” than HD DVD does.

Sony has once been burned in the past by refusing to license their format to the porn industry. Their Betamax technology lost out to VHS when they turned down the porn industry and it went with VHS instead. Sony is, of course, not going to take the moral high ground this time round, not if it contributes negatively to the bottom line (and who can blame them, really).

Jackie Ramos, vice president of DVD production for Wicked Pictures, commented that they’ll ultimately choose “what the consumer wants”. Well, sir, the average consumer just wants his regular dose of whatever he derives out of watching your movies and he doesn’t give a damn about whether it’s served to him on Blu-ray or HD DVD. So just get it out there already (if you have to).

Be aware though that MacUser does not endorse the viewing of pornographic content, in high definition or otherwise. Our moral compasses are firmly north facing and advise you to follow your conscience. And no, that’s not what the conscience sounds like, if you know what I mean.

What's with all the "his" and "hims" You think porn is only watched by men?

I, actually, don't have the faintest clue about porn, the pornography industry and all other related stuff. I certainly didn't know that women watched it too.

I am not sure that I would want to see porn in High Definition even if I was a viewer. However, I think that this is great - move over HD-DVD, Blu-ray has entered the building!
