OS X Turns V

Happy Birthday!Happy birthday, OS X. It’s been five long years, and you’re finally ready for your first day of kindergarten. Over at Ars Technica, the man, the myth, the legend, the John Siracusa reminisces about covering Apple’s revamped OS since the heady pre-natal days of its second developer release.

Siracusa is often one of OS X’s most critical fans, but he isn’t afraid to show his softer side, too:

Today, Mac OS X has achieved escape velocity…For all my complaints about the Finder, file system metadata, user interface responsiveness, you name it, I’ve always been rooting for Mac OS X. I’ve always wanted to believe. After five years, that faith is finally paying off.

Happy birthday, OS X. Now wash your hands and get ready for school.
