Apple can’t get no respect with environmentalists. Apple’s current policies and use of OLED LED backlighting isn’t enough satiate the blood lust of Green Peace. Just imagine the hordes that will be released from their underground hemp reinforced lair as they find out that none of Apple’s computers satisfy the very latest EnergyStar Guidelines.
The horror of it all! Apple has until January to comply, but given Green Peace’s recent behavior, I seriously doubt that’ll be good enough for them. So really, Apple needs to get on the ball if they want to retain that cute little logo. I know it helps me sleep at night (knowing I can use it to ward off Green Peace).
Update: Apologies everyone. Seems I should have double checked Engadget’s source. At any rate, the comments point out that Apple’s already mostly in tune with the new regulations. For the record, I’m still afraid of Green Peace.
In one of the comments on the Engadget article the poster points to Apple's environmental information page and says that the Mini, quad-core Mac Pro, MacBook, and MacBook Pro are all compliant with the latest EnergyStar version (v4). I looked at the sheets for the Mini and MacBook and it does indeed say that.

That leaves the iMac as the only prominent line which does not meet Energy Star v4 compliance. Possibly because they have a new model on the way...
In any case, it looks like the Engadget story isn't worth the bits used to transmit it. This appears to be yet another FUD campaign against Apple with no basis in reality.
Regardless of whether this is true or not, it's important as the Federal government is going to require that any computers it purchases be Energy Star compliant.
here is once again my two cents.
of course this is FUD! you can compare this to the strategy bush uses when his approval rating goes down- make up a false story about national security!
apple is gobbling up market share like the fat kid that stayed and sat in front of the birthday cake outside while the rest of the kids went indoors to play pin the tail on the donkey- time to sh*t out some greasy FUD!
Gizmodo is one of the worst when publishing this crap. And sites like Digg are responsible for spreading this misinformation and never correcting it. so there are tons of people mosying around digg that still think that apple is going to lose their energy star rating when in reality they arent.
if Apple is losing the rating,
I GUARANTEE you that HP, Dell, Toshiba, Acer, and all those losers will as well.
but no one needs to publish bad stories about them because they dont threaten anyone.
Man, put up an incomplete list of compliant devices and everyone freaks out. Apple seems to have corrected the oversight in the original story. The Mac Pro, Mac mini, MacBook, and MacBook Pro are all listed on Energy Star's list of compliant devices.
I find it interesting that you corrected the OLED bit, but not the central premise.
I don't want to be a precision freak, but since that's what I am, let me point out it's "Greenpeace", not "Green Peace". I know, a detail, but it's like when you see Ipod or MAC.
