Aesthetics keep Apple important

Times Online The Times Online has a good length article explaining Apple’s obsession with things that don’t just work well, they look great. From a marketing standpoint, I certainly agree. You see Macs everywhere. They’re in movies, on TV, and featured in advertisements for unrelated products. Is there a computer more recognizable than the original Macintosh or the iMac?

It’s all drive by people at Apple that aren’t satisfied with a product that will sell well. Each product has to be a work of art in its own right, technically and aesthetically. Finally though, the author points out something that any Mac journalist knows and relies upon.

But what the hell? I couldn’t have written this article about Dell, BMW, BP, Microsoft, Sony or IBM. No company I can think of is quite as consistently interesting as Apple, and I can certainly think of none that might qualify as a corporate work of art. So, on the sole basis that interesting me is a good thing, happy birthday, Apple, and many more of them.
