Apple TV plugins be Jaman

Jaman Through hacking, it’s been shown that it’s possible to develop Apple TV plugins for things such as RSS readers and the like. We’re still waiting on a hack that lets you add these plugins without physically opening the case, but once we do, we could start seeing third party products integrating themselves.

The first example is Jaman, a movie service for Mac and Windows. They’re working on (albeit unofficially) an Apple TV plugin that puts their movies right in your Apple TV’s menu system for perusal and viewing. The plug-in will be available soon (in the six to eight week timeframe). You can keep up to date by reading their blog.

I’d really like to see Apple open the Apple TV up for more stuff like this. It’s pretty clear that they’re not heavily interested in making it a huge success, but it could very well be with some extensibility. I know I’d suddenly be interested in getting one.

Say you've downloaded Cars from iTunes. Instead of watching it on your computer, wirelessly sync the flick to Apple TV.Then pull up a seat, put up your feet, and play your movie on TV. Give yourself a hand: You've just changed theway you watch digital media.
