Apple TV 2.1 update

Posted by Derik DeLong | Monday, July 14, 2008 5:25 AM PT

Apple TV Amidst the MobileMe roller coaster ride of operability, we missed the Apple TV 2.1 update. This lovely little update adds support for MobileMe and the new iPhone Remote App. With that latter edition, you can officially superglue that new phone to your left hand. I’d still like to see an app to tap into one of those home automation systems, but I suppose nothing is perfect.

Also a part of the update is a number of security improvements. It’s good to keep on top of that as well. Most non-iPhone users will appreciate the new Wish List that you can use to track movies you’d like to see. Overall, not a bad update.

The wish list is a terrific addition. We bought an ATV this week and immediately wondered if there would be a way to mark movies for later viewing. A fine improvement on a great unit. Now let's get some more content!

I mostly rent my movies now through ATV, and there doesn't seem to be a way to control rented movies. I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to controlling my rentals with it.

I saw a home automation app on the App Store. I don't have one, so I went right past it; but there is at least one.
