We mentioned Lenovo’s MacBook Air competitor recently. For those uninterested in Mac OS X and willing to shell out for the solid state drive, it looked like a reasonable alternative. Lenovo’s advertising people have decided to call out the MacBook Air.
The ad, pictured with this post, not only looks just like the Thinnovation ad, it takes a few jabs at our favorite lightweight. Thinnovation is replaced with “The art of thin” (clever?), the X300 is described as “No-compromise” and the ad ends with:
Everything else is just hot air.
Be ready for Lenovo’s next advertisement that says “At least our CEO doesn’t wear a turtleneck.”

As usual all PC manufacturers have to give their PCs some stupid letter-number name combo. Do you think a month from now, anyone will know what an "X300" is? I didn't think so. If someone told me they just picked up the new X300, I'd think they were talking about a car.
The ThinkPad has had beautiful hardware for a long time, no doubt, but there is one serious compromise with this machine. No Mac OS X!
That looks... sharp
The X300 costs $3000. For that price, I could buy almost 2 MacBook Airs!
It's almost twice as expensive, a little bit heavier, the standard model have poor battery life, but, no no, there's no compromise here.
In all fairness, the advert is genius and kudos to the marketing company that came up with it. It's definitely fighting talk (despite the fact that if you're interested in a MacBook Air a PC laptop probably isn't something you'll buy and vice verse) but done in a wonderfully subtle way.
