Rob Enderle is clearly one of our very favorite persons. In fact, he should have his own show: The Enderle Power Hour, which should be distributed to Mac fans with dangerously low blood pressure. Then he’d actually be doing some good, instead of just sounding like a wackjob.
This time, Enderle takes on the role of advertising critic by eyeing Apple’s Get a Mac spots, which to his mind appear to be insidious articles of danger and potential lying. This “investigation” was spawned by Bill Gates comments about the ads in the recent Newsweek interview (where, if you’ll recall, the Microsoft founder showed himself to be a bastion of reason and sanity).
But Enderle’s strangest comments come on the Counselor ad, which shows the PC and Mac together in couples’ therapy. Says Rob, taking on the role of armchair therapist himself:
…this is one you need to watch a few times, because the message about Apple in this is both subtle and troubling.Yeah, that part where Mac tells PC that “you dress like a gentleman?” What a jerk. Seriously though, Robby, you seem to be reading a bit much into a thirty-second television ad—perhaps it’s just residual anxiety over your trip to Crazytown. If this really was marriage counseling, the PC is behaving like the person betrayed or wronged, while the Mac is in power and effectively manipulating the counselor. There is a lot more about Steve’s personality in this than I think was intended. For instance, if this is marriage counseling, what would you think the story is behind the behavior? Doesn’t it look like the PC guy really doesn’t trust the Mac guy? Probably for good reason…
You know, it's that long since I've seen anyone commenting on yet another dumb Enderlismâ„¢ I'd forgotten the guy existed.
He was a regular joke on the As the Apple Turns site.
I've been a Mac user since the early 90's. Since that time I've endured many "jabs" from my PC using counterparts on how "PC's are better" or "Macs are just toys, not real computers", and on and on and on...So, the fact that these Mac ads appear to make our Macs superior to PC's, I'm all for it. It's their turn to have an inferiority complex!
