Leop—ah ha, I almost got you, this is not a post about you-know-what. Rather, it’s about how a guy got his YouTube video turned into a full-blown Apple ad for the iPod touch. The New York Times reports:
A television commercial for the new iPod Touch from Apple, scheduled to begin running on Sunday, 10-28 is being created by the longtime Apple agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day. It is based on a commercial that an 18-year-old English student and Apple devotee named Nick Haley, who says he got his first Macintosh when he was 3, created on his own one day last month. The clever lad pieced together little excerpts from the iPod touch guided tour and set the whole thing to cool music. The best part? He actually got invited to California to work with TBWA/Chiat/Day on the polished version of the ad Apple is about to start running. Speaking of, why not watch Nick’s original video?
Pretty cool, uh? By the way, that tune is “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex” (iTunes) by Brazilian band CSS (no relation to cascading style sheets, sorry).
Wow, he got lucky. It's a nice ad as well :)
Brilliant!
CSS = Cansei de Ser Sexy
(or: "I'm Tired of Being Sexy" for those who don't know portuguese.)
So was the linked YouTube video the original or the Apple remake? Either way, it didn't seem especially cool, or anything.
Kudos to the author though for getting Apple to bite.
That ad above is the user-created original. Since Sunday, the final Apple-created ad is available in full QuickTime goodness on Apple's website: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/ads/
