Gorenje’s “Made for iPod” fridge is so not cool

gorenjeifridge.jpgIf you’ve ever thought to yourself “Man, my fridge is pretty sweet, but it’s too far from my stereo—how will I ever jam to my kickin’ tunes?” then you apparently work in the Department of Brilliant Synergy Ideas at appliance maker Gorenje. The company has unveiled the first “Made for iPod” refrigerator, which will finally bring completeness to the lives of at least two or three people in the whole world.

Unveiled at the IFA show in Berlin last week, the Gorenje fridge/freezer features an iPod dock that will allow you to play music through integrated speakers, as well as view video and surf the web (assuming you’re using an iPod touch). The company’s also launching a portal called iGorenje—yes, iGorenje—that will provide cooking and household content, optimized for use on the iPod touch.

Look, I don’t know about you fancy pants people with your robot butlers or what not, but when I’m in the kitchen, I’m spending my time preparing food, putting my hands on and, yes, in things that I don’t then necessarily want transferred directly to my iPod’s touch screen. Maybe that’s just me.

Of course, a “Made for iPod” toaster would be a totally different story.

Okay, this could be useful - if the iPod touch screen would show you a representation of what's in stock inside your refridgerator. Unfortunately, I can't think of any other way to manage this, than manually inputting every time you get something out of the fridge. Unless, that is, they provide an advanced system of recognizing how many eggs are in there, using IR sensors and a specific "egg location". (Works well for eggs, but think of all the things you could put in there...)

Heh, this could just be Slovenia's best product ever (Gorenje in, after all, a Slovenian company). :D
